Become a Project Coordinator Back To Main

Hands On Asheville-Buncombe makes it easy for individuals and groups to make a difference in the community by offering a variety of convenient, flexible, low-commitment volunteer opportunities to support various Buncombe County nonprofits. These projects are the core of our program and are called  "Hands On Managed Projects".  Hands On Managed Projects:

  • Are recurring volunteer projects that address a specific need and help build capacity at local nonprofits.

  • Are coordinated by a trained volunteer Project Coordinator in collaboration with Hands On and the nonprofit agency where the project occurs.

  • Accommodate a group of volunteers without requiring them to make a long-term commitment.

  • Generally last for 2-4 hours and often occur on evenings or weekends.

We have a number of projects that need Project Coordinators to lead them. We are also happy to create new Hands On Managed Projects to meet the skills and interests of our Project Coordinators.

 Project Coordinators (PC's)

Hands On could not offer these flexible volunteer opportunities if we didn't have the support of dedicated volunteer Project Coordinators (PC's).

  • Project Coordinators are our strongest link to the community; ensuring that every volunteer has a positive experience and that real community needs are being met.

  • PC's act as the liaison between Hands On, the host nonprofit, and the volunteers who participate in the project.

  • Project Coordinators make a 6 month minimum commitment to lead one specific project (generally once or twice a month).

PC Requirements

Project Coordinators are vital to the success of a Hands On Managed Project. Volunteers who are interested in becoming a PC should:

  • Have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with a broad and diverse population of volunteers.

  • Be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and by email.

  • Be comfortable providing instruction, direction, and supervision to volunteers.

  • Be willing to commit to leading a Hands On Managed project for a minimum of 6 months.

To ensure the best possible experience for our volunteers, we require the following prior to placing a Project Coordinator with a Hands On Managed Project:

  • Participation in at least 2 Hands On Managed Projects

  • Reference Check

  • Background Check

  • Confidentiality Waiver

  • PC Orientation/Training
